Landis+Gyr Reports Growing Adoption of Smart Grid Networks among Public Power Utilities
Contracts with 31 Utilities for New Technology Deployments in the First Half of 2014
ATLANTA, GA. – Sept. 24, 2014 – Landis+Gyr, a global leader in the smart grid and energy management industry, announced 31 new advanced metering and smart grid network deployment contracts with municipal and cooperative utilities during the first seven months of 2014.
The initial agreements include more than 300,000 metering endpoints. Over time, contract volume and revenue could triple in size, as several customers have the potential to expand their projects. The new business represents a mix of customers migrating from one-way network technology and new customers deploying Gridstream® networks for two-way advanced metering, load and grid management and consumer engagement capabilities.
“Landis+Gyr has a longstanding reputation of providing migration strategies and support for municipal and cooperative utilities, and we’re seeing an increasing number of these utilities replacing legacy network and metering technology to enable more benefits for utility operations and consumers,” said Prasanna Venkatesan, Executive Vice President, Americas at Landis+Gyr. “At the same time, many utilities are installing smart grid networks for the first time and are able to choose a best fit technology that will deliver value for years to come.”
The migration path to future-ready communication networks and grid sensors includes both Gridstream RF mesh network technology, offering reliable connectivity to meters, sensors and grid automation devices, and Gridstream PLX, a next generation PLC network that supports 15-minute interval data from every meter. For existing Landis+Gyr customers, migrating is made easier by a common head-end software platform and multi-platform data collectors that support new and legacy endpoints.
“Public power utilities from Alaska to Alabama are choosing Gridstream not only for the technology, but the support options, proven history and leading-edge applications to augment every department in the utility,” Venkatesan said. “The benefits of smart grid technology for reliability, power quality, energy efficiency and infrastructure management are driving a significant return on investment for utilities of all sizes.”
Gridstream is Landis+Gyr’s leading smart grid platform that delivers advanced metering, grid automation, advanced analytics and consumer energy management capabilities to utilities worldwide. The solution integrates a number of communication technologies – including RF mesh, PLC and cellular – under a single head-end operating platform to give utilities the best technology fit and value for managing and controlling energy distribution systems.
